Cleft Lip and Palate

Cleft Lip and Palate

Some babies do not develop properly during the mother’s pregnancy. This can result in birth defects that affect a child’s upper lip (cleft lip) and/or mouth (cleft palate). We recommend these clefts be surgically treated within 12-18 months after birth. Our cleft surgery improves your child’s hearing, breathing, and speech, as well as restores proper facial aesthetics.

Tongue and Lip Tie

Tongue and Lip Tie

Children with tongue and/or lip tie often have trouble breastfeeding, poor weight gain, colic, and when teeth erupt, a visible gap formed between the two front teeth. These issues occur because the tissue that holds the upper lip and the tongue to the mouth is too restrictive. We remove this tissue (frenectomy), releasing the upper lip and tongue to move freely and properly.

What to Expect as a Parent

When you’re comfortable and relaxed, most likely your child will be too. We invite you to schedule a preliminary consultation for you and your child to meet our oral surgeons, staff, and nurse anesthetist before your surgery. We’ll be here to address your questions and concerns as well as meet and connect with your child on his or her level. Know that you’re not alone in feeling apprehension about your child’s surgery, but we treat pediatric patients on a weekly basis and have seen great success with our pediatric surgeries. Your child will be safe with us.
